Harry Helps DePaul Slide By Villanova

CHICAGO - DePaul's Katherine Harry was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll this past week. Her performance Saturday night against Villanova punctuated that award.

Katherine Harry scored a game high 18 points as the Blue Demons held off the Villanova Wildcats 64-60 Saturday night at McGrath Arena.

With the Blue Demons donning pink uniforms and pink shoes in support of breast cancer awareness, Harry had Villanova seeing red early as she scored 10 of her team's first 17 points as DePaul jumped out to a 17-11 lead.

A three-point play by the Wildcats' Rachel Roberts gave Villanova a 25-23 lead with 4:10 left in the first half. A three-pointer by Kyle Dougherty pushed the lead to 31-27 before a put back by DePaul's Keisha Hampton (13 points) trimmed the lead to 31-29 at the break. DePaul shot 0-6 from behind the arc while Villanova was 6-17 from three-point range in the first half.

The Wildcats (11-11, 0-9 Big East) pushed their lead to 39-31 with three minutes gone in the second half before a three-point play by DePaul's Felicia Chester jump started the Blue Demons.

A steal by Chester and lay up by Jen Juergens closed the gap to 41-38. Villanova led 45-40 before a Hampton assist to Harry followed by DePaul's only three-pointer of the game, a jumper from the right wing by Sam Quigley (12 points and six assists), tied the game at 45-45.

A jumper from DePaul's Anna Martin, her first points of the game, gave DePaul the lead at 49-47 with 9:27 remaining in the contest. The Blue Demons would not trail again.

A Chester back door cut and lay up off a nice feed from Quigley pushed the lead to 59-54. A free throw by Hampton with two seconds left provided the final score.

The Blue Demons outrebounded Villanova 40-29 with Chester grabbing 13 and Harry nine. DePaul had six blocked shots and forced 11 steals.

DePaul (16-8, 5-5 Big East) entertains top-ranked Connecticut this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. CST.

Notes: Harry is fourth in the Big East in rebounding with 9.6 rpg...Quigley is second in the Big East in assists with 4.0 apg.
