Game Preview
DePaul (6-4) looks to bounce back from Wednesday’s 62-57 loss to American as the Texas State Bobcats come calling to Allstate Arena on Saturday afternoon. This is the first meeting ever between the two schools.
The Bobcats are coming off of a 87-54 rout at the hands of second ranked Texas on the 12th. For the third straight game, the Blue Demons will be facing an opponent that has had at least a week off to prepare for the game.
Texas State has a record of 3-7 and has yet to win a game away from home. Only one of their wins has come against a Division I opponent, that being lowly Texas-Pan American.
The Bobcats did manage to take TCU to three overtimes before succumbing 108-99.
Three Bobcats average in double-figures. Junior forward Cameron Johnson is averaging 11.1 ppg and 7.6 rebounds per game. Junior forward J.B. Conley scores 10.7 ppg and senior forward John Ryback is contributing at 10.4 ppg.
Bobcat coach Doug Davalos is in his third season as the head man in San Marcos. He has a reputation for a high octane, uptempo offense. Texas State likes to score in transition, while DePaul prefers to force a half-court game. Saturday’s game will present an interesting contrast in styles for the deliberate-paced Blue Demons.
