Thornton Guard Leaps Forward in the Spring
In recognition of his efforts, Smith was named Second Team All-State for Class 4A by the Associated Press. Reggie is ranked as the 25th best point guard in the nation for the class of 2010 by Scout.com.
What has impressed observers the most about the 6-1 point guard is his athleticism. He has a tremendous vertical leap for a point guard. Smith recently played in his third straight Hensley Memorial tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
"You won't see many point guards dunking on seven footers or having alley-oops plays designed for him, but then again many point guards aren't Reggie Smith," said WeAreDePaul.com's Scott Phillips, after scouting Smith in Fort Wayne. "The athleticism is elite and he gives an effort to match on the defensive end."
The point guard from Chicago's south suburbs boasts offers from DePaul and Indiana, and is looking to take unofficial visits to both schools in the very near future.
"DePaul offered last weekend," said Smith
Reggie is also receiving interest from Butler, Marquette, Memphis, Miami, Ohio State and Oregon.
New DePaul assistant coach and former Kentucky assistant Tracy Webster wasted no time in reaching out to Smith. "I was talking to him at Kentucky," Reggie said. "Now that he's at DePaul, I've been talking to him a lot."
Reggie sees himself going to a school at the next level where he can play uptempo. "I want to go somewhere where I can play the point guard position and drive and kick," Smith shared. "I like to get up and down the court. I like a pressure defense. I'm an unselfish guard."
