Krys Faber: Big Man On DePaul's Campus

DePaul freshman big man Krys Faber arrived on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus on July 9th. Krys took some time to talk to WeAreDePaul.com as he was leaving his Southern California home for the Windy City. Hear what he has to say in this report.

In April, the 6-11 big man from Los Angeles, chose DePaul over interest from Minnesota, Northern Illinois, St. John's, South Florida, UCLA and USC. Much has happened with Krys Faber since he signed with the Blue Demons.

In May, Krys had the opportunity to play at a camp at Loyola Marymount University. Faber held his own as he went up against current college players from the West Coast. Many Pac 10 players were present including Arizona forward Marcus Williams and the league's freshman of the year - James Harden from Arizona State.

"I just tagged along with a friend of mine," said Krys. "It was fun and helped keep me in shape."

Krys received his diploma from Ribet Academy in the spring and had a surprise visitor at his graduation. Blue Demons coach Jerry Wainwright was among the well-wishers at Faber's graduation ceremony.

"Graduation was great, then we went out to celebrate. Coach and his wife joined us. Everybody got along and it was just a great day."

Faber was named to an All-Star game in St. Louis in June. The Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation All-Star Game also featured prospects that are headed to Cincinnati, Illinois-Chicago, Missouri, Saint Louis University, Southern Illinois and the University of Washington. Krys impressed all in attendance and was the second leading scorer for the National squad with 15 points. The opponent struggled to find someone who could match up with the powerful future Blue Demon inside.

"It was fun, at first, I didn't know really what to expect," Krys said. "Nice competition. It was the first All-star game I had ever played in."

Faber is looking forward to the level of competition that he will be facing in the Big East. "A few players from Cincinnati (Dion Dixon and Cashmere Wright) were in the game, so I got to see some of the new talent that's coming in."

As Krys packed his bags for his new home in Chicago, he pondered what lies ahead for him at DePaul. "I'm looking forward to getting acclimated to my new surroundings," Faber said. "Definitely working out and getting in shape and getting used to being away from home."

With getting in shape in mind, Faber is looking forward to having DePaul's facilities for his workouts. "Definitely. Where I'm located, it's hard to find a gym and people to play against."

Strength and conditioning is very important to the incoming freshman. Faber met with DePaul strength coach Bryce Karasiak during his official visit in April and is ready to get to work. "I asked for a list of what they do in the weight room and drills that they do," Krys said.

During his official visit to DePaul in April, Faber hit it off with fellow freshman Jeremiah Kelly. The pair will be rooming together on campus this season.

Blue Demon fans have anxiously awaited the arrival of Faber, who was rated as the 23rd best center prospect in the class of 2008. For those that can't wait until the season opens in October, we have the following video of Krys in action.
