WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the second time in four games Allie Quigley scored a season-high 36 points to lead DePaul to an 82-78 win at Georgetown on Wednesday. The senior opened the game with eight straight field goals and sealed the win with a steal and lay-up in the closing seconds.
Quigley set the tone early with two jumpers and a three-pointer to spot the Blue Demons a 7-2 lead.
DePaul
increased the advantage to 14 when Deirdre Naughton knocked down a three for a 22-8 score with 14 minutes left in the first half.
Georgetown
(13-12, 3-9 BIG EAST) entered the game with a 9-2 record at McDonough Arena and answered DePaul’s game-opening run by scoring 20 of the game’s next 25 points. With the Hoyas trailing by one, Kristin Heidloff hit back-to-back three’s to give the home team a 31-27 lead with 6:47 left.
DePaul returned the favor and flipped the four-point deficit into a five-point lead on a Natasha Williams’ free throw at 2:37. Georgetown then scored seven straight points before a Naughton free throw made the score 40-39 in favor of the Hoyas at halftime.
The Blue Demons led throughout the second half with back-to-back baskets by
China Threatt
giving DePaul (18-7, 7-5 BIG EAST) a 62-52 advantage midway through the second half.
DePaul’s lead held at six or more points until the final minutes when Georgetown pulled to within two on a pair of Kieraah Marlow free throw’s with 1:17 remaining. The two teams traded free throws before the Hoyas had the ball and called a time out. Coming out of the break
Felicia Chester
’s pressure on the inbounds pass forced an errant throw that Quigley easily stepped in front of at midcourt and finished the play with the game’s final bucket for an 82-78 final.
Quigley’s 36 points match her season high set on Feb. 5 at USF. It was just a point shy of her career-high 37 scored against
Rutgers
last season. Missy Mitidiero added 13 points with four three-pointers while Naughton totaled 11 points and four assists. Quigley also led the team with five rebounds. Chester came off the bench with nine points, three boards and two blocked shots.
Marlow led Georgetown with 21 points and eight rebounds and was followed by 14 from Jaleesa Butler.
