OKLAHOMA CITY – Top seeded Arizona eliminated DePaul from the Women's College World Series in front of a NCAA record 8,222 fans at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium on Saturday. The Wildcats defeated the Blue Demons 3-0 and play Washington on Sunday. The Blue Demons finish the season 47-13 including a 6-2 mark in the 2007 NCAA Championship.
Arizona
(46-13-1) had chances to score in the second and fourth innings; but timely pitching and defensive stops - including a double play to end the fourth frame kept the game scoreless until the fifth inning.
With one-out in the fifth frame, AU loaded the bases on a walk and back-to-back singles before
DePaul
catcher Jackie Tarulli-Fisher picked off pinch runner, Jill Malina. Blue Demon starter Tracie Adix got one strike on All-American Caitlin Lowe before Lowe knocked a two-RBI double that one hopped the fence in left field.
Sandy Vojik ended Taryne Mowatt's no hitter in the sixth inning with a single to right field and Kate Sheaks followed in the seventh with a single up the middle.
Arizona scored its final run in the seventh inning on Chelsie Mesa's RBI single.
DePaul used three pitchers in its final game of the season. Adix (22-4) took the loss after throwing five innings - surrendering two runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking one. Becca Heteniak threw the sixth inning and Stephanie Blagaich threw the seventh.
Mowatt (38-11) tossed a complete game, striking out six and walking three.
Saturday's game marks the final game for Blue Demons seniors, Tracie Adix, Kara Amundson, Jess Evans, Cara Santori, Linda Secka and Kate Sheaks. The seniors class went to two WCWS and won the 2007 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship.
