Sammy Mejia Named Big East Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - DePaul's Sammy Mejia has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week the league announced today.

Mejia scored a career-high 40 points in the 97-67 win over Northwestern State on Friday at the Allstate Arena. He became just the seventh player in DePaul history to reach the 40-point mark in a game going 17-24 from the field (including 5-7 from three-point range). He also had five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Mejia became the first Blue Demon to score 40 in a game since David Booth scored 40 against UCLA on December 15, 1990.

Mejia also won the award on December 4.

The Blue Demons (9-5) have won five straight and open BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday at St. John's.
