The signings of 2014 prospects Raymond Doby and Darrick Wood were made official by the DePaul Blue…
Wood Picks DePaul
The 6-5 shooting guard committed to DePaul while on an official visit to the Lincoln Park campus which began on Monday.
"DePaul has a very enthusiastic coaching staff," said Wood. "I like that a lot. They just need the right pieces. "
Darrick has known some of his future teammates for awhile now. He played on the NJ Playaz AAU squad with DePaul point guard Billy Garrett, Jr. when the two were younger. He later played against Garrett when he was with the Mac Irvin Fire.
"Billy Garrett, Jr. and Tommy Hamilton, IV, I played against them a lot in AAU when they were with the Mac Irvin Fire," Wood said. "They are sophomores and I'll be a sophomore. I feel like we'll have a great young core and we can go far with that."
Wood originally hails from the DC metro area and knows DePaul assistant Renard Phillips well.
"Renard Phillips is my old high school coach," said Wood. "That's another big reason why I considered DePaul. It's good to have somebody there that cares about me and knew me before basketball."
Darrick de-committed from St. John's during his senior year of high school after signing with the Red Storm, and ended up going to Hutchinson for two years, but played only one year.
Wood got off to a slow start this season at Hutchinson, but finished off the year strong.
"I got injured before the season, I tore my meniscus," said Darrick. "The first half of the season was the first time I had played in a couple months. It was the first time I had ever been injured. The first half of the season I didn't have the speed and be able to move like I used to move. The second half of the season, I kicked it up a notch and was scoring a lot better and moving a lot better. I was more mobile out there."
Wood joins Raymond Doby, Illinois transfer Myke Henry, Aaron Simpson, and Rashaun Stimage in the 2014 recruiting class for the Blue Demons.
