Illinois Transfer Henry Has Options
On Tuesday afternoon, Illinois coach John Groce officially confirmed Henry's release. Henry is looking for a basketball program where he can play the small forward position.
"Myke is looking for a new opportunity where he will be able to play a different position," Groce said. "He was a valued member of our team, but we want what is best for him, so we will help Myke find the right fit that will help him further his goals both on and off the court."
Henry became the fourth player to transfer from Illinois this season. The 6-6 230 lb. forward plans on sitting out the 2013-14 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Myke averaged 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per game last season for the Fighting Illini. He was also named an academic All-Big Ten selection last season.
DePaul is among the programs that have already expressed interest in Henry. The Blue Demons have one remaining scholarship available for next season.
Henry is also hearing from Bradley, Drake, Loyola, Providence, SIU-Edwardsville, and South Carolina.
"Myke is looking for good academics and somewhere where there are good coaches who will make him work hard," said Gipson. " He wants to play the wing. He wants to get himself better as both a player and as a student."
Henry plans on taking official visits to schools very soon and have a decision made in the next two to three weeks.
"A lot of schools are starting summer school in the next two to three weeks, so it will be handled by then," said Gipson.
