NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference unveiled its preseason picks Wednesday morning at the league’s annual media day at the New York Athletic Club. DePaul junior Cleveland Melvin was named to the second team All-BIG EAST preseason team while the Blue Demons were slotted to finish 13th in the preseason poll.

Louisville was a unanimous choice to win the 2012-13 BIG EAST men’s basketball regular-season crown with 14 first-place votes. The league’s head coaches do not place their own teams on their ballots.

Syracuse was tabbed for second place and Notre Dame rounded out the top three in third place. Cincinnati was fourth, followed by Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Marquette, USF, Connecticut and St. John’s. Rutgers is 11th and Villanova is picked for 12th, with DePaul taking the 13th spot. Seton Hall was voted 14th and Providence concluded the preseason poll in 15th place.

Cleveland Melvin – the league’s top returning scorer – was a second-team preseason selection after earning All-BI EAST honorable mention honors following the 2011-12 season. Louisville’s Peyton Siva was named the preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year and Pittsburgh’s Steven Adams was picked as the preseason Rookie of the Year.
