Cameron Completes Camp, Visits DePaul

Class of 2013 sharpshooter Reggie Cameron was in Chicago this week to attend the Kevin Durant Skills Academy and then stopped by DePaul's Lincoln Park campus to visit with Oliver Purnell. Learn more about the small forward from New Jersey in this report.

Reggie Cameron shot a red hot 51% from behind the arc this spring in Nike EYBL play. At 6-8, 220 lbs. Cameron has the kind of length and shooting ability that DePaul coach Oliver Purnell is looking to add to his 2013 recruiting class. Purnell hosted the young man on DePaul's campus on Thursday.

"I thought it was great," Cameron said of the visit. "I talked to the whole coaching staff. They are really straightforward. I got to see all their facilities. They took me on a tour of the whole campus. It's in a great part of Chicago. It's a great environment. I had a good time."

Purnell and his staff have been recruiting Cameron for quite some time and know that Reggie is a childhood friend of future Blue Demon Billy Garrett, Jr.

"They are like one big family," Reggie said of everyone at DePaul. "They all look out for each other. Coach Purnell has a history of taking programs that haven't been great in the past and bringing them back up to dominance. I've had a close relationship with Billy Garrett, Jr. since he lived in New Jersey. He's like my best friend. The city of Chicago is just a great place."

Garrett's and Cameron's friendship dates back to when Billy's father was coaching in New Jersey at Seton Hall.

"I think we were eight when we met each other. We both played for the younger New Jersey Playaz back then."

Cameron visited DePaul on Thursday while the 2012 NBA Draft was being held back in his native state. In a few years it could be Reggie's name that gets called by NBA Commissioner David Stern.

"That's every kid's dream," Reggie said of the draft. "I've got to keep working so maybe that can happen in the future."

Reggie is planning on attending the LeBron James Skills Academy in Las Vegas in July and will be competing with the Playaz at the Nike Peach Jam later in the month.

Once July is over with, Cameron will begin taking visits to schools and has a few colleges in mind.

"I'm planning on visiting Florida," said Reggie, who also visited Villanova recently. "I'd like to get out to Michigan at some point, and North Carolina State and Miami too."
