McDonald Talks About DePaul Decision

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell went out to Nevada to mine for a combo guard recruit and found himself a nugget.

That's 6-2 senior combo guard Durrell McDonald from Henderson, Nevada, who goes by the nickname of "Nugget".

Following his official visit to DePaul's campus this weekend, McDonald pulled the trigger and committed to Blue Demons coach Oliver Purnell tonight.

"The visit was beautiful," said McDonald. "Everything was perfect from the time I got there to the time I left. We went out with Coach Purnell and saw the game against South Florida."

McDonald chose the Blue Demons over interest from Penn State.

"I liked everything from the solid basketball, to the academics, to the people, everything felt perfect," said McDonald. "I couldn't have asked for a better place to play."

The Green Valley High School guard got a chance to bond with his future teammates during the visit.

"The guys seem real cool, they're a great team," said Durrell.

McDonald plans on studying Accounting and/or Business Management at DePaul in the fall.

"I liked the academics," McDonald said. "I got to meet a lot of their staff. I felt like they cared so much about me. It was great."

McDonald now gives Purnell some added depth in the backcourt for the 2012-13 season.

Durrell did have one final parting shot for fans who come to see DePaul next season.

"Expect greatness!"
