2013 Prospect Washington Picking Up Offers

Class of 2013 forward Kyle Washington has seen his interest increase significantly since reclassifying and transferring to the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut.

A number of high-major NCAA programs have made their way to Hotchkiss this fall to see Kyle Washington in action.

In the last couple months, Washington has picked up scholarship offers from Baylor, Florida, Louisville, Notre Dame, and West Virginia.

Washington caught a number of scouts attention when he led his Howard Pulley Black team to the 17-U championship of the St. Louis Summer Showcase in late July.

Washington was a force that entire weekend using his length and athleticism to dominate opponents. The 6-9 junior discussed using those assets to his advantage.

"I like to use what God gave me," said Washington. "I have great length so I like to use it. I play good defense. I block shots, talk on defense, and try to grab rebounds. I said I am going to be the leading rebounder the whole weekend."

What makes him so effective is his combination of physical tools and skills. He is a big man that can also take his man on the perimeter and beat him off the dribble. His shot stretches out to 18 feet. In transition Washington runs the floor like a gazelle and finishes strong on passes from his stud 2014 point guard Tyus Jones. How would the power forward describe his game?

"I would describe my game as versatile," said Kyle. "I like going inside and out. I am a defensive presence and a team-first player."

Washington also holds offers from Drake, Iowa State, Marquette, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Xavier. He's visited Marquette and Xavier unofficially. There is no rush in the decision making process for Kyle.

"I am interested in everybody and am going to keep on working hard to see how far I can take it."

Washington also made a splash at the Nike Elite 100 Camp in late-June. I t was a camp that featured the top 100 underclassmen in the nation. At the event, Washington displayed to scouts his versatility and how athletic he was for a big man.

While at the Nike Elite 100, Kyle also got to know DePaul commitment Billy Garrett Jr. Washington says Garrett's dad has picked up the interest in the Minnesota product for the Blue Demons.

"Their assistant coach Billy Garrett has talked to me," said Washington.

Kyle has also been hearing from DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell.

Washington has a big time game and is a prospect that with continued exposure could see his stock rise in the eyes of many college coaches.
