Sterling Brown Visits DePaul
"It was good, I got to meet with the coaches, see the campus and get my feel for the university," said Sterling. "It was great. They have a great coaching staff and a great system."
Brown got to take in the sights around the DePaul campus.
"We looked at different dorms and the classroom area," said Sterling. "We got to see the weight room and walked around all the different facilities of the university."
Brown plays with future Blue Demon Billy Garrett, Jr. on the Mac Irvin Fire AAU team and sees DePaul as an up and coming program.
"They have a lot of young talent that will hopefully make them a better program in the next couple years," said Brown. "They're looking good."
The style of basketball that Brown plays with the Fire and prefers to play in, is a lot like what the Blue Demons are accomplishing under Purnell.
"I like an uptempo system," said Brown. "I like to get the ball out on the break, score the basket, and play pressure defense where I can show my athleticism."
Brown, who is entering his junior year at Proviso East, is rated as a high 3-star prospect for 2013 by Scout.com and is ranked as the 27th best small forward in the class.
"I'm an all-around team player," said the 6-5, 205 lb. junior. "I like to shoot the ball, I like to pass the ball, I'm a great rebounder and can see the floor well."
Brown recently picked up a scholarship offer from DePaul and also has offers from Illinois, Ohio, and Wichita State. He is also receiving interest from Michigan State and Tennessee.
As the younger brother of NBA star Shannon Brown, Sterling is savvy to the recruiting process.
"I'm just keeping my options open right now," said Brown.
Brown will be teaming up with senior Keith Carter again at Proviso East this season. Under first year coach Donnie Boyce, Brown and the Pirates hope to go far in the 2011-12 high school season.
"We're conditioning right now and getting a feel for the new coaching staff," said Sterling. "We're going to go out there and try to play our best. "
