Sterling Brown Picks Up DePaul Offer

DePaul has already secured a solid point guard in the class of 2013. They are looking to team Billy Garrett Jr. with a big time scorer next to him. One of the Blue Demons top targets is Proviso East shooting guard Sterling Brown who holds a DePaul offer.

The DePaul coaching staff has done a good job of building a solid foundation during the recruitment of Sterling Brown.

"I have a good relationship with them," said Sterling. "I talk with Coach Billy Garrett a lot."

Brown likes the personality of the staff and how they teach players throughout their careers.

"They are cool guys that are going to teach you everything," Brown said. "I think I would learn a lot there."

One of the key factors favoring DePaul is his tight friendship with current DePaul 2013 commit Billy Garrett Jr. The two both play for the Mac Irvin Fire AAU program and are both considered among the best players in their class in Chicago.

"I have been talking to Billy Jr.," said the younger brother of Shannon Brown. "He is always calling and texting me. I saw him today."

The success DePaul has been having on the recruiting front is something recruits such as Brown are noticing.

"They keep getting good guards like Billy Jr. and are getting post players too," Brown said.

When it comes to recruiting the same schools remain in the hunt.

"The same schools are still in the mix," said Brown. "Different coaches are coming into see us in open gym."

That includes offers from Wichita State, Ohio, and Illinois. He also has interest from many other schools from around the nation. Right now Brown is focusing on the upcoming high school season.

"It is looking good," said Brown, who is playing for first-year coach Donnie Boyce at Proviso East. "We just played our first two games of the fall and we are looking good. We have some new guys in the mix."

They will start the season off Thanksgiving weekend at the Tournament of Champions in Washington, Illinois against some top competition.

"It is going to be a great tournament," Sterling said. "They have a big gym. We are going to try to go down there and win it against some of the teams we will see later on in the year."

Brown is focused when it comes to his goals for his Proviso East squad this year.

"We are going to try to win state," said Brown. "We are trying to show everyone that we can do it with mostly guards."
