DePaul Team Camp Notes – Day 2

DePaul Team Camp Notes – Day 2

After two full days of basketball at ATTACK Athletics, there were a lot of tired players, tired coaches and some short fuses on the final day of DePaul's 2011 High School Team camp.

With bracket play beginning this afternoon, the four schools that advanced to the semifinals of DePaul's team camp were Morgan Park, Thea Bowman (Gary, Indiana), Simeon, and Proviso East.

A bench-clearing brawl ended up cancelling the semifinal between Morgan Park and Proviso East. It was a shame that a fight had to end what was shaping up to be quite a duel between 2013 guards Billy Garrett, Jr. of Morgan Park and Sterling Brown of Proviso East.

Bowman was awarded the championship after Stephan Hawkins tipped in the game-winning shot to defeat Simeon in the other semi-final.

- Earlier in the day, future Simeon guard Jaylon Tate (Class of 2013) paid the camp a visit. Tate wasn't there to play with the Wolverines though. Instead he and his mother stopped by for an unofficial visit with DePaul coach Oliver Purnell.

- The incoming freshman class at DePaul also stopped by to check out the camp today.

- Curie Class of 2014 big man Cliff Alexander led the Condors to the quarterfinals of the camp. Alexander earned a scholarship offer from Purnell today in recognition of his outstanding play throughout the camp.

- Be sure to check out our review of the prospects at Day 1 of the team camp in the below report.

- Special thanks to Coach Purnell, associate head coach Ron Bradley, assistant coaches Brian Ellerbe and Billy Garrett, and staff members Andy Farrell, Matt Fleming, Brandon Bailey and Kevin Edwards for another great team camp.
