2011 Wing Commits to DePaul

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell has added a sixth member to his recruiting class for 2011. Learn more about Charles McKinney from Quality Education Prep in this report.

Charles McKinney, a 6-4 wing from Quality Education Prep in North Carolina, verbally committed to DePaul coach Oliver Purnell this evening. McKinney pulled the trigger after taking an official visit to DePaul earlier in the week.

McKinney is a Chicago-area native who attended Maine East for three years before transferring to Quality Education. After coming home for the holidays on break from school, he made the decision to attend DePaul.

McKinney chose DePaul over interest from Iowa, Oregon State, and VCU.

After a solid performance at the Marshall County Hoopfest earlier this month, Scout.com's Evan Daniels described McKinney as "a pretty good athlete, (who) can lock down on defense and also has a pull-up floater in his arsenal."

Returning home to Chicago was important to McKinney so that he could be closer to family.

"The location is important," McKinney told WeAreDePaul.com. "It would be great if my family could support me where I am at."

McKinney joins Shane Larkin, Braeden Anderson, Jamee Crockett, Derrell Robertson and Macari Brooks in the Class of 2011 for DePaul.
