Harry Carries DePaul Past Loyola
"I credit my teammates for finding me, and I tried to make the best of the situation and do the best that I can to help us win at all times," said Harry. "That is ultimately the goal, and it doesn't matter who is putting up 20 or 25 points, it is that we are all wearing the DePaul name on the front of our jerseys."
DePaul (10-1), which squeezed out a 68-64 win two years ago at Loyola, had no such trouble this time around.
Sam Quigley's (12 points) three pointer put the Blue Demons ahead 14-10 at the 13:15 mark. DePaul held the Ramblers scoreless for the next seven minutes and a layup by freshman Jasmine Penny gave DePaul its biggest lead of the first half at 34-12 with 5:33 left.
DePaul had just two baskets in the first half that did not involve an assist. The Blue Demons finished with 26 assists on 33 baskets. Anna Martin and China Threatt each had five assists to lead DePaul.
Harry and teammate Felicia Chester (12 points and nine rebounds) combined for 32 of DePaul's 42 points in the paint.
"Felicia is such a talented post player, and I think we really have an opportunity to do some good things this year," Harry said.
DePaul has now won the last 17 meetings with Loyola by an average of 32 points.
The Blue Demons' Keisha Hampton scored seven points in 11 minutes of play before spraining her right ankle. Hampton needs 11 points to become DePaul's 25th 1,000 point scorer.
Loyola (4-4) was led by Monica Albano's 21 points.
DePaul opens up a three game home stand starting this Saturday against Northern Illinois at 5:00 pm. CST. The DePaul men's team plays Ball State in the second game of that doubleheader.
